Abtract
The authors review twenty years of geotechnical investigations of Na'ur Landslide No. 4. The landslide is considered as one of the most important landslides along the road between Amman-Na'ur and the Dead Sea.
Hydrology, geomorphology, geology, and geotechnical studies of the landslide were reviewed in some details to understand the main reasons for the movement. Previous geotechnical studies at this site were also summarized and briefly discussed.
To stabilize the slide in order to built the road requires excavating weak material and reconstructing an embankment founded on strong bedrock. A stability analysis for this solution allows comparison of the as-built road and the recommended solution.
The main conclusions are that drainage is necessary, the upper slope above the embankment should be flattened, the reconstruction of a road through the slide is feasible, and the present road will have continuous sliding problems in the future.
