Abstract
With the object of using for road construction, lateritic clays from Brazil (kaolinite and gibbsite) have been experimentaly, compacted with or without lime addition. Structural and mineralogical transformation of the material before and after compaction were studied by petrographic methods. The material stabilization is making in two states by short term reaction, less than one hour, before compaction and by long term reaction thanks to various mineral neoformations (8 species) which take a part in cimentation. The predominance of calcium aluminates seems to indicate a greater reactivity of gibbsite. Stability conditions of these phases are discussed according to litterature data.
