Summary
The author notes that landslides in the region of Nice take place in fossil narrow valleys filled up by an eluvial coat: “the active saturated coat”. The visco-plastic behaviour of this material leads to use the Bingham rheological model, which allows to work out an equation binding the critical shear strength to the extrinsic and intrinsic landslide causes.
Using the rheological model, remote sensing, ground works, climatic and seismic studies, the author develops a landslide forecasting map in the region of Nice, at the scale of 1/50 000.
