Abstract

The mineralogy and micromorphology of laterites from Central Greece have been thoroughly examined by X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis and optical microscopy. Based on these results and the field observations, the unusual occurrence of calcite and the rocky nature of the laterites are elucidated, and the mechanism of genesis is given.

Also the physical and mechanical properties of these materials were studied and a good relationship between uniaxial compressive strength and porosity was established.
