Abstract

The aggregates play an important role in the concrete, both qualitatively as well as quantitatively. The quality of aggregates not only limits the strength of concrete but it greatly effects the durability and structural performance of concrete. The strength of concrete not only depends upon the mechanical strength of aggregates but also to a greater extent on its absorption, modulus of elasticity, shape and size, bulk density, porosity, moisture-content, fineness modulus, grading of aggregates etc. Some of these parameters have been studied by remote sensing techniques, since the traditional methods, for finding out these properties involve, much time, labour and money. The radiance levels or signatures are sensitive to changes in aggregates parameters like shape and size, grading of aggregates (both coarse and fine) and moisture content. The absolute radiance or signature of the images, are correlated with these parameters, using different filters.
