On the marine clayey soils of the Kola Peninsula and problems of construction on them

Summary

Marine clayey soils of the Kola Peninsula have developed under specific lithogenetic conditions. Marine clayey soils possess specific properties and are distributed at the sea coast and river valleys where big cities are situated. A characteristic spatial variability of the soils determines the impossibility of using the average indices for their evaluation. The soils are characterized by the specific deformability, especially at the upper weathered parts of massifs. These lithogenetic zones (“crusts”), can be used for engineering-construction purposes.
