Abstract

The experience concerning the behaviour of the molassic formations in numerous excavations in the Greek territory (mainly in roads) leads to propose a geotechnical classification system. This classification related to slope stability and excavation conditions is based on the lithology, texture, physical properties of the molasse sequence and the relations between the direction of their beds and the axis of the trench or other type of excavation.
