Abstract
Electron-acceptor groups at theβ position in the ethyl radical of quaternary salts of N-ethylpyrazoline do not facilitate rupture of the C-N bond in the Hofmann degradation, and the pyrazole ring opens to giveβ-cyanoethylamines.
