Steroids XLV. The steric hindrance of the hydroxy groups in 3α,11α-dihydroxy-16α-methyl-5β-pregnan-20-one

1. The reduction of 11α-hydroxy-16α-methyl-5β-pregnane-3,20-dione with NaBH4 forms 3α,11α-dihydroxy-16α-methyl-5β-pregnan-20-one.

2. In 3α,11α-dihydroxy-16α-methyl-5β-pregnan-20-one the 11α-hydroxy group suffers greater steric hindrance than the 3α-hydroxy group.
