The treatment of zosterin, a seaweed pectin, with enzyme preparations fromEulota maackii andHelix pomatia yielded 12 neutral oligosaccharides, the structures of which have been determined. It has been shown that side chains consisting of 1,3-linked xylopyranose residues are attached to rhamnose residues connecting galacturonan fragments to one another.
