Utilization of acrylate-embedded large tissue samples in dermatohistology

Summary

A method of embedding tissue in synthetic material which has seldom been used in dermatohistology is described in this communication. This process combines the preparative advantage of slight artifactual alteration of organic tissue and readily reproducible sections between 1 and 3 µ in thickness with the feature of light microscopy that tissue slices of “normal” dimensions can be prepared without difficulty. It avoids the disadvantages of the small dimensions of the preparations required for the ultramicroscope. With few exceptions, all staining methods applied to paraffin slices can also be used.

Zusammenfassung

Mitteilung einer in der Dermato-Histologie noch wenig gebräuchlichen Präparationsmethode organischer Gewebe mit Methacrylaten. Dieses Verfahren verbindet die präparativen Vorteile der in der Ultramikroskopie gebräuchlichen Technik (geringe Alteration des Gewebes, Anfertigung reproduzierbar guter Schnitte zwischen 1 und 3 µ) mit den Verhältnissen in der Lichtmikroskopie (Verwendungsmöglichkeit hier üblich dimensionierter Gewebstücke). Mit wenigen Ausnahmen sind alle an Paraffinschnitten gängigen Färbemethoden möglich.
