Reaction of 4-diethylaminosalicylaldehyde with malononitrile

  • Published:
Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds Aims and scope

Abstract

The composition of the products from the reaction of 4-diethylaminosalicylaldehyde with malononitrile depends on the reaction conditions. A suitable method for the preparation of 2-dicyanomethylene-2H-1-benzopyrans is proposed. The dissociative ionization under electron impact of coumarin analogs has been studied. The relation between the polarity of the exocyclic double bond at C2 of coumarin, the position of the 1H NMR signal, and the position of the long-wavelength absorption band in the electronic spectrum is established.
