Abstract
The reaction of 1-aminomethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline with diethyl fumarate goes by two possible paths, to form a mixture of 3-carbethoxymethyl-4-oxo-1,2,3,6, 7,IIb-hexahydro-4H-pyrazino[2,1-a]isoquinoline and its isomer 4-carboxymethyl-3-oxo-1,2,3,6,7-llb-hexahydro-4H-pyrazino[2,1-a]isoquinoline.
