Abstract
The reaction of 5-benzylidene-2,4-thiazolidinediones with formaldehyde leads to the formation of only 3-hydroxymethyl-5-benzylidene-2,4-thiazolidenediones in high yields. The structures of the compounds obtained were confirmed by the IR and UV spectra and the results of elementary analysis.
