Abstract
The Mannich reaction with primary amines is a convenient method for the synthesis of β-acylaminomethyl derivatives of α-acylaminothiophenes, which are readily cyclized to substituted 1,2,3,4-tetrahydrothieno[2,3-d]pyrimidenes by the action of formaldehyde.
