Abstract
Bis(pyrylium) cations were obtained by the condensation of methyl-substituted pyrylium salts with terephthalic dialdehyde. Their electrochemical reduction in dimethylformamide was studied by cyclical volt-amperometry on a platinum disk electrode. The reduction of compounds of the bis(pyrylium) series proceeds in two steps with the formation of cation radicals in the first step and a neutral quinoid particle in the second step.
