Summary
Cationic surface active agents can be separated by gas chromatography on columns with silane rubber UCC W-982 as stationary phase and temperatures between 100 and 320° C with 10°C/min temperature rate. Since the decomposition of the surfactants by pyrolysis at 300° C in the injection system of the gas Chromatograph is absolutely reproducible, the identification and determination of mixtures of cationic surfactants can be carried out by this method with the aid of the linear retention indices of the amines formed by cleavage.
