Abstract
Aroyl ketenes formed in the thermolysis of 6-aryl-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxin-4-ones undergo a [4π+2π]-cycloaddition reaction with acetylacetone and methyl acylpyruvates to give 2-methyl- and 2-methoxycarbonyl-3-acyl-6-arylpyran-4-ones, respectively.
