Abstract

Chloroalkenes are obtained in 55–70% yields in the reaction of equimolar amounts of 3-acyl-Δ3-butenolides with phosphorous pentachloride; dichloroalkenes are formed in the presence of a twofold excess of phosphorus pentachloride. The ability of chloroalkenes to undergo polymerization is shown.
