Biology and ecology of the crab Rhithropanopeus harrisii ssp. tridentatus

Abstract

Data are presented on the geographic and local distributions as well as on the life cycle of the crab Rhithropanopeus harrisii (Gould) ssp. tridentatus (Maitland). Extensive studies on this subspecies were carried out in its natural habitat (an abandoned arm of the Vistula, Poland), and under laboratory conditions. The effects of some environmental factors on distribution, life cycles, and abundance of the crab are discussed. The results obtained are compared with those reported by other investigators.
