Genetic History – Eine Herausforderung für die Geschichtswissenschaften
- 5 Downloads
Scholars in Genetic History make use of DNA sequences as historical sources. For the most part geneticists address both genetic and historical questions. While there is a wide range of applications including evolutionary biology, genetics, anthropology and archaeology, migration is the most controversial subject at the moment. Recently historians got involved in the ensuing debates on the methodology, the politics and the meaning of Genetic History. We aim to evaluate their concerns and to point readers both to some of the more urgent questions as well as to some enlightening and introductory texts. Finally, we suggest to adopt a “critical friendship” with the sciences which now engage in the study of human history.
