The development of industrial diesel engines is a complex task. High loads, longevity, performance and low total cost of ownership combined with compliance with new legal requirements are just some of the requirements placed on engines today. The new three-cylinder engines from Hatz follow the design features of the introduced four-cylinder engine series in many areas, which have been upgraded where necessary.

Motivation

The new three-cylinder engine 3H50TIC is based on the well-proven downsizing concept of the 4H50TIC four-cylinder, which has been expanded further. Tried and tested design features such as the thin-wall cast iron cylinder crankcase, the aluminum chilled cast cylinder head with cross-current cooling, and the Overhead Valves (OHV) two-valve design with decentralized injector position are also reflected in the new three-cylinder model. As is the case for the four-cylinder model, great emphasis is placed on a compact overall package for the three-cylinder model (0.2 m3...
