Sensors for Reliable Stability Control Systems in Mobile Cranes

Wherever loads are lifted, hazards automatically arise. This is especially true when using mobile cranes that have to work safely at ever new locations with changing installation conditions. This requires reliable stability control systems. Gefran has developed robust mobile hydraulic sensors for the design of these systems.

Safety Requirements

Almost every manufacturer of mobile cranes offers today models with a load capacity of up to 400 t, some even up to 1,200 t. However, even smaller hoisting equipment with a load capacity of 100 kg or a lifting torque of 40,000 Nm must comply with strict safety regulations such as ASME B30.5 in the U.S. or with the requirements of the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and the harmonized technical standard DIN EN 12999:2011. The latter specifies the relevant requirements of Annex I of the Machinery Directive. In particular, it requires the integration of a vehicle stability control system into the vehicle’s safety concept.
