State-of-the-art powertrains in agricultural machines are subject to evaluation under a range of criteria including fuel consumption, pollutant emissions, vehicle performance, noise level and operator comfort. Many of these criteria influence each other in adverse ways and increase the challenges for the torsional damper positioned between the engine and the gearbox. Based on this requirement profile, ZF has developed and markets a grease-filled lifetime-lubricated torsional vibration damper.

Motivation

Several influences challenge current and future agricultural powertrains in a complex area of concern regarding pollutant emissions, fuel consumption, driving performance, NVH-behaviour and ease of operation. Adding to the complexity is that individually these requirements, which are growing from the combustion engine side as well as from the different types of transmissions, are partly contradictory to each other. This raises the demands on the torsional vibration damper connecting...
