Awards and Recognitions
Dr. Antonios G. Mikos, the Louis Calder Professor of Bioengineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Rice University, has been awarded the 2019 Acta Biomaterialia Gold Medal. Dr. Mikos will be the eleventh recipient of this award since it was initiated in 2008 (with Bob Langer, Dr. Mikos’s postdoc mentor, as the first recipient). The Acta Biomaterialia Gold Medal recognizes demonstrated leadership in the field of Science and Engineering of Biomaterials. The awardee is a recognized world leader in the field of biomaterials, whose accomplishments in discovery and translation to practice are surpassing and well known in the field. With this award, Acta Biomaterialia not only honors outstanding contributions to the field but also heightens awareness of the fundamental importance and diversity of materials research, both within the community and among the public at large.
