Vasculitides are a heterogeneous group of potentially life-threatening diseases characterized by inflammation of blood vessels. The clinical features are dependent on the size and distribution of the vessels involved . Takayasu arteritis (TA) is a granulomatous panarteritis of the aorta and its major branches, typically affecting young women during their reproductive years. TA can be divided into acute inflammatory and chronic healing phases and is classified according to the site of involvement: type I, only supra-aortic arteries; type IIa, only ascending aorta or aortic arch; type IIb, descending aorta with or without the more proximal portions of the aorta and aortic arch branches; type III, aortic arch and its branches with simultaneous involvement of the descending thoracic and abdominal portion or renal arteries; type IV, only abdominal aorta or renal arteries; and type V, generalized involvement as a combination of the other types .
