Since the late 2000s, L’Orange has been engaged in the development of common rail injectors and high pressure common rail pumps for Wärtsilä two-stroke diesel and dual-fuel engines. For both types of engines a major challenge was to cover all the engine sizes concerned with the minimum of hardware variants.

Motivation

Since the end of 2008, fuel injection specialist L’Orange GmbH has cooperated with Winterthur Gas & Diesel Ltd. (WinGD, formerly Wärtsilä Switzerland Ltd.) in developing common rail injectors and high pressure pumps for low speed two-stroke engines. The engines are part of the Wärtsilä “Generation X”, also known as the W-X family where “W” stands for Wärtsilä, ‘X’ for two-stroke, cross-head, extra-low speed, flexible fuel injection, followed by the cylinder bore in cm.

The complete family consists of the W-X35, W-X40, W-X52, W-X62, W-X72, W-X82 and W-X92 two-stroke engines, covering a power range from 870 to 6130 kW/cyl. and featuring specific fuel consumptions ranging...
