* congenital anomaly
* other medically important event

A 19-year-old woman developed ileal obstruction along with various other toxicities following intentional overdose and toxicity of iron.
The woman presented to the emergency room with complaints of abdominal distension, colicky abdominal pain, obstipation and intractable vomiting for one day. Anamnesis revealed she deliberately ingested 30 tablets of iron (335mg strength containing elemental iron 100mg) following an altercation with her family, for deliberate self-harm. Total ingested dose of iron was 3000mg (about 46 mg/kg). Within an hour of consumption, she had been presented to a nearby healthcare facility, where she had undergone a gastric lavage and supportive care, with no record of deferoxamine administration.
