Holistic Control of Diesel Engines and Exhaust Gas Aftertreatment

IAV has developed a higher-level system architecture for the management of diesel engines and their exhaust gas aftertreatment. This makes it possible to meet the strict emission requirements of the Euro 6 standard even under real driving conditions.


The introduction of Real Driving Emissions (RDE) not only makes it necessary to meet pollutant limit values under laboratory conditions but also in everyday traffic. The particular challenge here lies in the drastic increase in the number of factors that need to be taken into consideration for vehicles to comply with emission limits. However, the huge input involved in testing makes it impossible to optimize all conditions in real-world driving. This is where IAV's new strategy comes which also keeps emission levels below the prescribed limits under unforeseeable driving conditions while at the same time minimizing fuel consumption [1].
