CO2-neutral Mobility Potential of Alternative Fuels and Electrification for Off-highway Applications
- 113 Downloads
Off-highway applications require powerful and sufficiently independent drive systems plus energy storage units with high power densities. Both these requirements can be met in full by diesel engines. Emissions from diesel engines which comply with the latest EU Stage-V legislation are virtually free of pollutants. CO2 emissions pose the only remaining challenge. Deutz is following two strategies in pursuit of carbon-neutral mobility.
Manufacturers of combustion engines are investing a large proportion of their resources in developing methods of preventing emissions. And much has already been achieved, particularly as regards mobile machinery. From 2019, Deutz's off-highway drives will be subject to EU Stage V legislation. Compared to 1999, this will reduce NOx emissions by 95.7 % and particulate emissions by 97.9 %. Added to that, a numerical limit of 1 × 1012particles/kWh must not be exceeded. The solution is to employ Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) combined with a...
