Analyzing the Rollover Stability of SUVs

In chassis development, the rollover behavior of SUVs has not been investigated sufficiently to date. Rollover stability is typically analyzed by means of expensive test maneuvers with prototype vehicles. Within a cooperation project between Audi and TU Dresden, measurement-related disturbance factors can be ruled out by using simulation tools, contributing to a deeper understanding of the physics behind rollover behavior.

New Requirements of Electric SUVs

Electric SUVs have altered geometric characteristics, such as a greater vehicle mass and roll moment of inertia, whose influence on rollover safety has been studied only partially so far. Previous work has examined these individual effects as well as their cumulative influence, and found that electric SUVs have an advantage over traditional sports utility vehicles in terms of rollover stability [1]. In the literature, the question arises, to what extent the interaction between roll and yaw eigenfrequency affect rollover behavior [2]....
