Two new species of Lycianthes series Tricolores (Solanaceae) from southern Mexico and Guatemala

Lycianthes grandifolia and L. mariovelizii are newly described from southern Mexico and Guatemala. Both species are shrubs with relatively long calyx appendages belonging to series Tricolores; L. mariovelizii has appendages up to 11 mm long in flower and 14 mm long in fruit that are somewhat flattened at the base, while L. grandifolia has appendages up to 7.5 mm long in flower that are not flattened at the base. Lycianthes grandifolia is also distinguished by having leaves up to 22 cm long and ribbed to angled young stems that are somewhat collapsed in pressed specimens. This article provides descriptions and illustrations of the species and a new key to the species of series Tricolores.
