Motorcycle Hose Clamp Failure Analysis

Abstract

A radiator hose clamp failed on a motorcycle resulting in loss of traction and a crash. This paper describes the analysis and findings regarding the failure mechanism of the subject hose clamp. Reuse of the hose clamp, rather than replacement during engine refurbishment, allowed a fatigue crack to initiate and propagate to failure.
