The second edition of Handbook of Research on Nonprofit Economics and Management, edited by Bruce Seaman and Dennis Young, aims to facilitate a dialogue in nonprofit studies by bridging the gap between the economic paradigm of rationality and the management paradigm of institutional constraints, weaving the narrative within prevailing social and political circumstances. The bridging efforts are important because both of the seemingly divergent themes are needed to derive a comprehensive understanding of nonprofits.

Forty-three leading management and economics scholars have contributed to three major areas: nonprofit finance, nonprofit engagement in markets, and nonprofit-related public policy issues. Across an array of topics, the authors follow a neat frame of presentation: an extensive review of literature about the topic, evaluation of strengths and weaknesses, and insights and guidance for future research.
