This Special Issue is devoted to the 30th anniversary of the Journal of Superconductivity and Novel Magnetism. The Journal was founded in 1988 by Drs. Donald Gubser and Stuart Wolf, both Senior Scientists at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C.

Initially, the journal’s title was Journal of Superconductivity. Its creation was motivated by the large expansion of the field caused by the milestone discovery of high Tc superconductivity in cuprates by G. Bednorz and K.A. Mueller. We are proud that Alex Mueller later became and still continues to be an Honorable Member of our team of Editors. We are also very pleased that he, jointly with A. Shengelaya, has written a paper for this Anniversary issue.

Later, the intensive development in the area of magnetism and, especially, progress in spintronics, in the study of novel systems such as manganites, ferrites, low dimensional compounds, and the like, has resulted in an expansion of the journal and change of its name. This expansion was caused by a strong overlap of the fields of superconductivity and novel magnetism.

For this Jubilee Special Issue, we originally considered publishing some selected papers from previous issues. Indeed, in such a case, we would have a great choice among many nice Letters, Reviews, and Regular papers published in the journal over the past 30 years, which did reflect the intensive developments in the areas of superconductivity and magnetism. However, later we decided to have this issue be aimed at the future of the fields. Of course, the papers published in this issue cannot cover the whole variety of existing directions. Nevertheless, being written by the leading experts, they demonstrate the richness of superconductivity and novel magnetism as the frontiers of modern physics.

The publication of the Journal is a complex process. It requires the joint efforts of authors, referees, editors, members of the Board, and the production team. We are especially grateful to Sara Kate Heukerott, Senior Editor at Springer, who is in charge of all steps; Sanaa Ali-Virani, her Assistant Editor; Narmadha Purusothaman, our Journals Editorial Office Assistant, and Emilie Janguin and Myrla Jamito in our Production Department. Their experience and tireless efforts provide the success of the Journal.
