Abstract

Co-substituted FeSi alloys for applications as absorbing materials were prepared by melt spun and high-energy ball milling techniques in this paper. The microstructure, phase and electromagnetic property of samples were characterized by means of SEM, XRD, VSM. The results show that the typical flake structure was obtained for all absorbing powders. In addition, only α-Fe(Si) phase was detected for all absorbing powders. It is indicated that the Co addition does not change the phase structure of samples. Static magnetic properties indicate that the magnetic properties of samples depend on the Co doping content. The electromagnetic parameters of the powders were measured by microwave vector network analyzer of Agilent PNA 8363B. The reflection loss was calculated according to the transmission line theory for all samples. The Fe70Si20Co10 alloy at 1.5 mm in thickness achieved a minimum reflection loss of − 8.8 dB at 3.56 GHz. The results indicate that Co-substituted FeSi alloys may be used as absorbing materials in 5G band.
