Effect of cross-links on the pullout of carbon nanotubes from amorphous polymer

The use of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as fiber reinforcement in polymer matrix composites is currently being investigated because of their superior mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties . However, recent research has raised some concerns that the widespread use of CNTs may lead to mesothelioma, cancer of the lining of the lungs, just like asbestos . During the machining of the CNT-reinforced composites, CNTs may be pulled out of the polymer matrix and spewed into the air, where they present health risks. To ensure safety in using and manufacturing CNT-based products, a detailed understanding of the CNT pullout from a polymer matrix is essential.
