Review of Review Reclaiming the System: Moral Responsibility, Divided Labour, and the Role of Organizations in Society by Lisa Herzog
Organizations are ubiquitous features of modern life. We spend much of our lives within organizations. And many of the ethical challenges we face are as organization members. Yet rarely do ethicists focus on the specific ethical issues stemming from life within organizations and life within a society dominated by organizations, so the author of this book argues. One can appreciate her point by noting that much research in business ethics is centers upon corporate corruption and malfeasance, problems largely raised by for-profit organizations. In this book, by contrast, the author adopts a broad lens, seeking to identify the ethical problems and potential solutions to these problems characteristic of organizations, generally. This focus gives the book a broad orientation compared to other research in business ethics and makes it relevant to future research in the field.
