In celebration of Joan Broderick, 2019 recipient of the Alfred Bader Award in Bioorganic or Bioinorganic Chemistry

This special issue celebrates the scientific achievements of Joan B. Broderick on the occasion of her receiving the American Chemical Society Alfred Bader Award in Bioorganic or Bioinorganic Chemistry at the 2019 American Chemical Society Spring National Meeting held in Orlando, Florida. Specifically, Broderick’s Bader Award recognizes her for making “seminal contributions to understanding the role of the 4Fe4S cluster in the Radical SAM Enzyme Superfamily: SAM binding and a novel organometallic intermediate.” The Radical SAM Enzyme Superfamily represents a fairly young class of metalloenzymes whose numbers have burgeoned to over hundreds of thousands only in the past 25 years.

The special issue begins with a review from W. E. Broderick and J. B. Broderick [1], which introduces the reader to this remarkable class of enzymes.
