Reply by Tomaszewski et al. to the letter by Jiang et al. regarding “Artery of Adamkiewicz: a meta-analysis of anatomical characteristics”

We read the letter by Jiang et al. with interest. The authors of the letter suggest that our meta-analysis on the Artery of Adamkiewicz (AKA)  includes duplicated studies that base their results on the same or similar study populations. We appreciate the feedback and have thoroughly reanalyzed all of the included studies (especially the ones pointed out by Jiang et al.) for parameters that might potentially suggest data overlap of any kind. Even though “at first glance” one might assume that the cited studies potentially include overlapping data, however, this should not be assumed a priori as all authors have an ethical obligation not to publish the same data twice.
Jiang et al. suggested in their letter that studies no. 27, 28, 29, 31, 33, 34, 35, 39, 40, 10, 46, 47, 55, 56, included in our meta-analysis might have some degree of data overlap. However, after careful study reanalysis, we came to the conclusion that the following references—27 and 29, 28 and...
