Steel Ladle Bottom Castable with Higher Corrosion and Erosion Resistance
Current trend in the development of refractory concrete (castable) for ladle bottoms focuses on materials with better properties and relatively low price in relation to the specific cost of 1 t of produced steel. Reduction of the specific cost is achieved mainly through the production of steel with application of new kinds of refractory materials with higher properties, for example better thermo-mechanical properties and higher resistance to ladle steel slag. Slag-making agents are added in order to form optimal liquid and reactive slag. Deoxygenating, alloying, and desulfurization agents are added into ladle during tapping. Synthetic slag is used during tapping steel into ladle — it acts as desulfurization and refining substance with thermo-insulating properties. These factors affect the castable performance on the ladle bottom.
