Analysis of brillouin-fiber-ring active optical delay lines

Abstract

We discuss the stability of a Brillouin fiber ring resonator used as an active delay line. The stability and shape of the output pulse train depends only on the pump power and the ring recoupling coefficient. The amplified spontaneous noise is shown to be irrelevant, and an optimized configuration is proposed, which is shown numerically to yield a very stable arbitrary delay with little sensitivity to input parameters.
