Technische Hinweise zur Säuberung von Ostracoden-Schalen


A new method for cleaning and opening Ostracod-carapaces is developed. After the cold-silvering of the specimens (Triebel 1958), they are transferred into 15% solution of hydrogen peroxyde. The resulting reaction and the vigerous release of oxygen help to remove the adhering sediment from the carapace. This method can be repeated until the expected result is obtained. Weakly closed carapaces could be opened with the help of this procedure if they are left a longer time in hydrazine hydrate (25%) and silver nitrate respectively to allow the silvering of the inside of the carapace.
