The eisenmenger-ductus syndrome

  • 15 Accesses

Summary

Five cases of the Eisenmenger-ductus syndrome are presented. The difficulties in clinical diagnosis, especially with regard to auscultatory findings, are discussed. The reactive hyperaemia test may reveal differential cyanosis of the hands. The anatomical diagnosis was confirmed by cardiac catheterisation and angiocardiography. At present treatment is with prophylactic anticoagulants. Surgical closure of the ductus is associated with a high mortality and is contra-indicated. The course of the disease is progressive deterioration. Any form of radical operation envisaged in the future will have to take into account the prime importance of the pulmonary vascular disease in the evaluation of the fully developed syndrome.
