Toxoplasmic uveitis in adults

Summary

A description is given of suspected toxoplasmic uveitis in four cases of which three may illustrate acquired infection and one may be congenital. Any titre of dye or complement fixation tests may be significant.

Reference is made to the relative merits of specific and anti-inflammatory therapy in a particular case.

Thorough clinical examination may fail to reveal an ocular lesion and patients with unsuspected toxoplasmic uveitis may be a reservoir of contagion to others.

A specific infection may burn itself out after giving rise to an auto-hypersensitive mechanism which may prolong ocular inflammation.
