Analysis of deoxynivalenol and zearalenone: State-of-the-art in Europe

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the state-of-the-art in the analysis of deoxynivalenol (DON) and zearalenone (ZON) in cereals and to support a knowledge and experience exchange between the laboratories working in the field of Fusarium mycotoxin analysis. For that purpose the results obtained in recent intercomparisons and two Standards, Measurements and Testing (SMT) projects of the European Commission dealing with the determination of DON and ZON are discussed. The experiences gained during these studies clearly show the need for further improvements in DON and ZON determination to obtain more accurate and comparable results.

Zusammenfassung

Ziel dieser Arbeit war es, den Stand der Technik in der Analytik von Deoxynivalenol (DON) und Zearalenon (ZON) zu untersuchen und einen Know-how-Austausch zwischen Mykotoxinanalytiklabors zu fördern. Als Basis für unsere Studien dienten die Resultate, die in Laborvergleichstests und zwei Standards, Measurements and Testing (SMT) Projekten der Europäischen Kommission erhalten wurden. Die Ergebnisse dieser Projekte zeigen klar einen Bedarf zur weiteren Verbesserung der DON und ZON Analytik auf, um zukünftig genauere und vergleichbarere Analysendaten zu erhalten.
