Seismic resistant reinforcing bars

Abstract

One of the lessons to be learned from the tragic Gujrat earthquakes is the importance of damage control of our civil structures. Many structures that escaped total collapse still sustained significant structural and non-structural damages, causing a threat to the occupants and necessitating costly repairs. The need for more positive control of damage has been raised, and improved performance of reinforcing bars by using continuous casting and thermo-mechanically steel is shown to provide a potential solution.
