Preparation of haematin for injection and its use in the acute attack of porphyrias

Abstract

Haematin for injection is of value in the treatment of the acute attacks in hepatic porphyria. The clinical application of haematin and other treatment schemes are discussed.

A new method is presented for the preparation of pure, pyrogen free, haematin for injection from outdated human packed cells.
