Inhibition of cholesterol synthesis in isolated rat hepatocytes by salicylate

Abstract

Salicylate has been found to be an inhibitor of cholesterol biosynthesis by isolated hepatocytes. Half maximal inhibition of cholesterogenesis occurs at approximately 7.5 mmol/l salicylate. It is proposed that salicylate, at blood levels encountered therapeutically, inhibits hepatic cholesterol synthesis.
