Kinetics of oxidative dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene on a Pd/NaY zeolite

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    A study has been made of the kinetics of oxidative dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene on Pd/NaY zeolite catalysts, and an equation for calculating the rate of styrene formation derived.

  2. 2.

    Oxidative dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene is accompanied by deep oxidation, the fall-off of the CO2 yield with increasing time of catalyst operation being described by an S-shaped curve, antibatic to the styrene yield curve, at high partial pressures.

  3. 3.

    A reaction scheme is proposed with the suggestion that the slow process in the system is styrene desorption from the catalyst surface. Kinetic equations derived from this scheme prove to be consistent with the experimental data.
